A celebration of design through time

Unfold

A series of poster designs to promote the to launch of
‘Unfold—A celebration of Design through Time’, a pop‑up exhibition for Faux Gallery. The posters have been designed to express each city visually the exhibition will visit.

Harmony - Tokyo

When visiting Tokyo in early 2020, I was amazed by the extensive public parks in such a densely populated city. I observed many office workers taking advantage of this and enjoying their lunch within these parks. For this reason, I selected the plum blossom (ume), to represent Tokyo, which is the first flower to bloom and considered by locals as representative to the beginning of Spring.

With acrylic paint, I used expressive directional brushstrokes throughout the piece, focusing on consistent texture and repetition of similar shapes to create harmony.

Marrakesh - Repetition

I observed repetitive patterns across Marrakesh throughout architecture, tiles, pottery, and artworks, with each piece often featuring multiple clashing patterns. Repeated archways are a common design feature in many buildings.

The repetition of pylons and archways gives the illusion of distance and the patterns repeated on the flooring and arches is representative of Marrakesh.
